Mission Outreach Projects
Here at A4J Lesotho we have many projects ranging from gardening to equipping locals with skills and knowledge and even reaching the young ones in the preschool. One of the other things we do regularly is have groups come over on short term outreaches so you might want to help out, but you don't have a unique skill set and it may feel that there is nothing you could do, however that simply isn't true because one of the best things you can do is come and minister on a short term outreach. It doesn't matter if its just you or if you want to bring your whole church, either way coming to the Malealea Valley and doing ministry is a tremendous help, a great experience for both those young in faith and those who have been doing ministry for a while. It is also a great way to expose yourself to ministry in the mission field.
But how would this work? What do you need? What will you be doing? Where will you be staying? There are many questions and I am going to attempt to answer them all in this article.
What would you be doing? Ministry can range from a couple things due to the time of the year and the size of the group. It ranges from doing door to door ministry in the villages, helping with the bible study groups, working with the youth and/or children, helping with the preschool and even manual labor on the base or helping plant/ harvest in the fields and/or gardens.
However it is worth having a chat with us in advance about exactly what you want to do.
The first step toward having an outreach is contacting us and organizing a suitable date. Contact us and then we can talk about what you want to do, when its possible, accommodation and so forth.
Please don't be afraid to ask questions, if you have anything on your chest its best to deal with it rather than being uncertain.
What will I need to bring and where will we be staying?
We have 1 room with two beds and 2 rooms with four beds each.
We can also house bigger teams if you bring your own mattresses and are willing to camp on the floor.
We do recommend having a jacket as the weather does shift dramatically at times. I also recommend that you bring decent walking shoes as ministry usually entails walking to the villages. The basics such as a hat, sunblock and a water bottle is necessary. You can bring your own sleeping bag, cushion, but we do having extra blankets.
PLEASE NOTE! There is requirements to what you wear on ministry due to the culture. Men should wear a t-shirts/shirts and long pants. Women's shirts should cover their shoulders and waist. They should also wear a skirt or wrap, because it isn't comfortable to walk in a skirt most women just wear long pants with some sort of wrap around their waist that goes past the knees.
As for food we provide 3 meals a day, the meals are basic but we try our best to get what we can for the budget . You will get the opportunity to try some local food.
What if its just me coming or a small group?
That won't be a problem either as our staff do ministry and all the projects daily so you can tag along, sometimes coming alone is the best if you want to get to know our staff and be more relaxed.
